T-Mobile USA Inc., formerly known as VoiceStream Wireless Corporation, provides personal communications services, under the T-Mobile brand, primarily in major urban markets in the United States, using the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) technology. It provides various wireless products and services designed to match a range of needs for business and personal use, including wireless voice, data, and messaging services. The company includes an array of features with every voice service plan, such as voicemail, message alert, caller ID, call waiting, short message service, call hold, and conference calling. Its data services provide customers with Internet access enabling them to access a variety of content and other services. Additionally, a hands-free device is included with every T-Mobile handset the company packages for sale. Its GSM/ General Packet Radio Service and Wi-Fi networks offer a variety of services, features, and benefits. T-Mobile holds an interest of approximately 25% in a joint venture with Cingular Wireless, LLC to share in the ownership and operation of GSM network infrastructure in most of California, parts of Nevada, and the New York City market. Powertel, a wholly owned subsidiary of T-Mobile, provides the same services as the company under the T-Mobile brand in the southeastern United States. Including the Powertel markets, the national network in the United States for the T-Mobile brand covered 223.6 million people, as of March 31, 2003.
